W.A. Fashion Awards 2013

Mix red carpet with flashing cameras, a sea of fashionistas in glam gowns, a sultry Perth evening and you have a glitzy, Perth Fashion Festival event. The annual, Western Australian Fashion Awards for 2013 were held last week at the fabulous Brookfield Plaza.

Black and gold luxe. My simple colour combo for the WAFA’s.

Took a few little ‘happy snaps’ on my way.

Being tall and such a ‘dressed-down’ creature, black-tie is always a challenge! Most dresses that appeal, are a bit too leggy! This one above included… but I wore it anyway!

The cropped gold jacket, added a little sass & bide glitz! It’s the feature piece of this combo. Tip: For a ‘cover-up’ sling a jacket over your shoulders, like a cape! The panelled Shakuhachi leather dress, has a long, rear tail. The necklet is from Saba, the pouch is a vintage piece and the suede zipper boots are by Leona Edmiston. To complete the look, I twisted my hair and pinned in a few black and gold, hand-painted butterflies, from Spotlight. Finally, added MAC Red lips!!

Cameras flashed on the red carpet! Top (L) Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan, Director of PFF. Top (R) Poppy Lissiman, no secret, she’s one of my fave style babes! Bottom (L) Award winners Alvin Fernandez, Teagan Sewell and Pip McManus. Bottom (R) MC, Channel 10’s Magdalena Rose, wearing Ae’lkemi.

Upon arrival, drinks and tasty morsels were served in the terrace courtyard. I chatted with gorgeous models Nicole Harrison, Grady Wulff and Gabrielle Sullivan Top (L). Congrats to all three who picked up awards on the night. It was especially sweet, chatting with Nicole and hearing of her overseas modelling adventures, as I taught her in Primary School!! Also chatted with top Perth Stylists, Teagan Sewell and Emily Howlett, Top (R). Both were nominees and Teagan won the ‘Fine Details’ award for Sewellery, her edgy, jewellery range. Had a few minutes with talented designer Steph Audino, Bottom (L) and Designed By WA blogger, Kymm Battle-Burrows. Time now to head inside for the presentations.

As we entered, a string quartet played. The rows of chairs were laden with gift bags.

After speeches, presentations and a parade, the final and much anticipated award of the evening was presented by Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi. Cheers to Alvin Fernandez from Ae’lkemi, for winning The Most Innovative Designer Of The Year award. An after-party was held at Print Hall, where the celebrations continued.
