Matilda The Musical

Perth you are in for a TREAT!
Matilda The Musical is coming to town!!

It Premieres at The Crown Theatre on March 3rd.Last weekend, Stylist/Writer & good friend Clare Ryan & I flew to Brisbane to preview Matilda The Musical, before it heads our way to Perth! We were… super excited!!!!!!After landing, it was straight to The Rydges Hotel for Pre-Show drinkys with Publicist JP Bolton… (if like me, you were wondering what JP stands for, it stands for Just Perfect ;))As we headed to the QPAC Theatre, JP told us stories of his incredible adventures around Australia with Perth born Tim Minchin, who wrote the music and lyrics for Matilda The Musical.
The magical world of Matilda The Musical, adapted from Roald Dahl’s novel Matilda, takes you on a scary, revolting & hilarious journey through Matilda’s childhood. The cast consists of 4 Matildas, 25 children, plus an adult cast of 21.

There are so many tingly goosebump moments, ‘lump in the throat’ moments and totally exhilarating moments throughout the show!! Afterwards you are left feeling high-on-life, wanting to get out there for a whizzzz on a scooter, a swing on a swing and just be a kid all over again!!

Luckily for Clare and I our Matilda journey continued the next day… with a Backstage Tour!!Pictured with the fabulous Cle Morgan, who plays Librarian Mrs Phelps in the Show. Cle & JP were our tour guides, showing us behind the scenes & explaining the workings of the Show!We goofed around, scootered around, swung hi ‘n low & got to re-live all the childhood wonderfun things, as well as see the backstage set.An ‘on-stage’ surreal moment re-living the ‘When I Grow Up’ scene!!Kinda awkward… but determined to stand on the swing & have fun just like the kids in the Show!On stage ‘Auditioning’ for Matilda!’

Back stage, the tour continued in the Props Department! We oggled over Matilda’s traditional blazer & bowler hat from Crunchem Hall Primary School plus the perfectly ordered Dressing Room. Everything must be in precise order for the Show to run smoothly.Up close… the scrumdiddlyumptious choccy cake, the bizarre wigs & and the famous rainbow coloured scooters!!

Wow what a Bucket List experience!!Matilda is a punchy ‘Must See’ Musical… for the young and the young at heart… 9-99 years!! The Show runs for a limited season from Feb 28- May 7th with Matinee & evening performances.

A Tip: Get to know the music first… especially songs ‘When I Grow Up’ and ‘Revolting Children’ and prepare yourself to enter into the maggot filled, naughty World of Matilda The Musical!!

See you at the Show aa xx
