A Dress Over a Skirt!?!

A capelet or shrug is a good way to add a little extra cover. As the mornings are getting cooler, the Pilgrim shrug (above) from the Myer Basement, adds interest to an outfit, as well as giving that bit more coverage over the shoulders.

A lot of dresses are just far too short for many of us to wear!! This camilla & marc dress, from two seasons ago, definitely fits into the ‘too short’ category. I often wear it with tights, boots and a long blazer or trench in winter. But to wear it in summer, it needs some creativity!! After rummaging through my wardrobe for inspiration, I came upon a black stretch skirt. It added just the extra length I needed. Next, I pulled in the waist with a ‘bow tie’ cummerband. Easy, easy, my outfit complete in a jiffy.

Many people have asked me about the Pilgrim capelet above. I purchased it some time ago so have been recommending this Piper vest as an alternative. One of my clever clients bought one, folded it in half, (top to bottom), sewed up the sides and cut a neck hole. It only took her an hour and I’d say it’s better than mine. Tip: If you see something you like, have a go at re-creating it yourself!

Fab new creation… Arm socks!!! During our desk to dinner workshop last week, Nicole modelled them. They’re stretchy like tights and come in plain or lace. They can be rolled up into a tiny ball and can be stored in your handbag. Tip: keep on hand as a safeguard if the weather cools, or to dress up an outfit for night.

These arm socks are made in Italy by Levante. Available at Myer, in the hosiery department for $18.95.
